This is a more recent quilt, finished this past January. The lure of a good quilt shop inspired my Elementary Quilt, when I found myself at Fancy Tiger in Denver, and couldn’t resist purchasing a charm pack of Elementary, by Sweetwater for Moda.
Having engineering running rampant in our lives, I loved the calculus and text prints. I found inspiration for this quilt from a rug… um, naturally, later realizing that this is a fairly common pattern and I probably had seen it elsewhere.
So I do not claim to have created this, I just had to work through the quilt math on my own, the hard way, so I figure I will share. My quilt math added up though, I made 40 Strip Blocks, and 40 Charm Square Blocks. My solid colors were Kona Stone, Kona Natural, and Kona Sand.
My design wall, which is fairly new, came in handy as I figured out the sequence of the blocks and colors. I did not strip piece this, as I was making it up as I went, but when I make it again, I will! Click here for my Free Charm Square Quilt Tutorial. If anyone would like to pattern test this, please let me know!
